Depart your central Beijing hotel by private, air-conditioned minivan with your guide. Stop to view the Bell and Drum Towers, and learn how they were used to announce the time — the bell in the morning and the drum by evening — during China’s Yuan, Ming, and Qing dynasties.

Continue into the nearby hutong neighborhood and walk along Yandaixie Street, one of Beijing’s oldest lanes. Pass the imperial-style architecture and shops, and visit a family home for a traditional, home-cooked dinner.
