Wanning Bridge, a historic Yuan Dynasty bridge connecting Beijing’s central axis and the Grand Canal. This ancient bridge, dating back to 1285, symbolizes Beijing’s rich history and unchanging significance over seven centuries. As a vital link in Beijing’s traffic network, Wanning Bridge offers a glimpse into the historical evolution of the city, showcasing its enduring importance through the ages.
We will sample some typical Han majority cuisine at a restaurant opened in 1953, which was one of the first commercial restaurants established since the founding of the People’s Republic of China (PRC).
The Beijing Drum and Bell Towers, located at No. 9 Zhonglouwan, Dongcheng District, were the timekeeping centers during the Yuan, Ming, and Qing dynasties. The Drum Tower, originally built in 1272 and rebuilt in 1420 and 1539, stands 46.7 meters tall with two stories and striking red paint. It features a double-eave wooden structure and houses 25 large drums.
We will sample Beijing traditional street food (Dalian Baked Bun), and Mongolian BBQ in two restaurants.
The history of Dalian Baked Bun dates back to the Guangxu period of the Qing Dynasty. We often confuse pot stickers with Dalian Baked Bun. In fact, pot stickers have a shape similar to the dumplings we often eat, while the appearance of Dalian Baked Bun resembles the cloth bags that Northern people used to carry when going out to markets in the past. Particularly when made with softer dough, when picked up by chopsticks from the middle, the two ends droop down, hence the name.
The tour will end at a brewery hidden in a Hutong. You will try local craft beer here. Pace yourself and enjoy the nightlife in Beijing.
