This is a private market, cooking and meal experience. Visit a local neighbourhood market to buy ingredients with Sandy,  then learn how to cook a traditional Cantonese meal, and then join her at the dinning table to enjoy a meal you helped prepare.

You will meet Sandy at her home and then walk around the traditional neighbourhood of Sai Ying Pun to see all of the dried seafood and mushrooms for sale, some of it still drying right on the sidewalk. Then onto a local wet market where fresh produce, live fish and unique seafood are sold. She will point out her favorite produce and meat stands and where you can purchase fresh chicken. Peek in back if you want to see the live chickens! While walking around the neighborhood with Sandy, you will learn a lot about how the locals of Hong Kong live and some unique religious traditions that are incorporated into their daily lives. Sandy will take you to all her favorite shops to buy ingredients for your cooking class. Later walk back to Sandy’s apartment for your cooking class.

In your hands-on cooking class learn how to cook Cantonese cuisine in Sandy’s small kitchen. You will learn an extensive array of skills and before you use an ingredient, Sandy will explain the ingredients and how they are used in the cooking process. She loves to use fresh, local produce and sources it from the local markets down the street. In your 2-3 hours class, you will learn to make a variety of dishes, using classic cooking techniques including steaming and stir-fry.

A few of the dishes that you might try are lettuce with oyster sauce, Chinese steamed water eggs, dumplings, steamed spare ribs with black beans, prawns with salted egg yolk, stir-fried seasonal greens, smashed chili cucumber, and steamed rice with Chinese sausage. You may end your meal with Chinese New Year’s traditional peanut and sesame brittle and seasonal fruit.
