The Kowloon City Night Food Tour starts with an adrenaline packed red minibus ride, proceeding with a gastronomic discovery of Hong Kong’s Thai, Chinese Islamic, Chiu Chow, and Indonesian cuisines and how these ethnic groups played an important role in shaping Hong Kong’s history.
The red minibuses require passengers to yell out their stops to the driver and you’ll experience this first thing as we make our way to see the last remains of the Kowloon ‘walled city’, which was once the densest place in the entire world. Next, we’ll see why Kowloon City is dubbed as Little Thailand in Hong Kong & we’ll understand the history of why the streets are lined with Thai and Chiu Chow restaurants. While Thai food when not seem “authentically Hong Kong”, we’ll explain to you why it is, how they’ve made it Thai-Hong Kongese and how the Thais played a huge role in the history of Hong Kong and Kowloon City. Next, we’ll try Indonesian, Chiu Chow, and Chinese Islamic foods and you’ll learn why these ethnic communities and their food is all part of authentic and Old Hong Kong. Interprersed between the different food stops, we’ll discover what the locals are really doing in terms of their night life, and we’ll even teach you a drinking game or two!
