Stop At: Drepung Monastery (Zhebang Si), Southern Slope of Genpeiwuzi Mountain, Chengguan District, Lhasa 850000 China

At 9:30am, the tour guide will be in the lobby of clients’ Hotel, Lhasa, to provide transportation to Drepung Monastery, one of the ‘great three’ Gelug university monasteries of Tibet, founded in 1416 by Jamming Choge, one of Tsongkhapa’s main disciples.

Drepung Monastery was used as the Dalai Lama’s palace in the Drepung before permanently relocating to Potala Palace. The grand monastery was built along the mountains covering over 650,000 square feet. With numerous mansions and zigzagging alleys, the monastery looks like an impressive city in itself.

Stop At: Sera Monastery, Wuze Hill , Sera Chengguan District, Lhasa 850000 China

In the afternoon, continue to Sera Monastery. It is also one of the ‘great three’ Gelug university monasteries of Tibet, but was founded in 1419 by Jamchen Chojey, another main disciple of Tsongkhapa’s. The highlight of Sera Monastery is the debate of monks around 3-to-5pm daily, except Sundays.
