What to Expect When Visiting Lhasa, Tibet, China

Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival In Lhasa
Pass By: Lhasa, Lhasa, Tibet
Upon your arrival at Lhasa either by flight or train, our local guide meets you at the airport or train station where you will easily find the guide with name-board of tour company or your group name or individual name on it. After our representatives offered you Tibet traditional greeting scarf welcome to Tibet. It will take about one hour and 30 minutes from airport and train station respectively to Holy Lhasa City. Driving along the Yarlong Tsangpo or Brahmaputra river(Indian name) and Lhasa river is the largest tributary of the Brahmaputra which flows to India (Kyichu in Tibetan), spectacular Tibet old villages with enclosed barren mountains but also you will have a tremendous view of the Potala Palace which is magnificently standing on the red hill from far sight. There you are coming to hotel and our local guide will escort you to the hotel and help to get checked in. Rest of the day, you would you have a good rest to acclimatize the high altitude in your hotel is a good option to ease for next day trip. Those who are first time to visit to Tibet, it is best option to relax in the hotel rather than going outside for the first arrive at high altitude.

Day 2: Potala Palace And Jokhang Temple
Stop At: Potala Palace, No.35 Gongqian Alley, Beijing Middle Road Cheng Guan District, Lhasa 850000 China
Today, we are going to visit UNISCO world heritage sites are Potala Palace and Jokhang temple in the afternoon. Potala Palace was built at an altitude of 3,700 m and it was inscribed to the UNESCO world heritage site list in 1994. The site on which the Potala Palace rises is built over a palace erected by 33rd king of Tibet and present Palace with two parts of it with white and red was built in 17th century by great 5th Dalai Lama and it is the highest Palace in the world. It was built not only the size and height of the Palace, but it was built with scientific construction to prove against earthquake by pouring coppers into the foundations of it. Then you are going inside the Palace to see the thousands of enshrines, golden and alloy statues, golden tomb stupas of the Dalai Lamas and countless antique things are dated back many centuries and meditation cave in 7th century.

After the Potala Palace and your lunch, going to visit again an another UNESCO world heritage list in 2000. This is the oldest Buddhism temple and first temple(Jokhang Temple) in Tibet which dates back to first Tibet Buddhism introduction into Tibet. Jokhang Temple was built under very mysterious condition and it has fantastic history to know the completion of the temple building and architecture as well.After your afternoon visit, you will have a great joy to make circuit around the Barkhor street with thousands of Tibetan pilgrims by shoulder to shoulder. This street is the most crowded in Tibet, where you will have a great privileges to have some shots with people from different regions of Tibet. You will discover a plethora of ritual practice that the pilgrims do everyday. Today, we are going to end here for the second day of your tours and take rest for next day to alleviate Jet-lag.

Day 3: Drepung and Sera Monasteries
Stop At: Drepung Monastery (Zhebang Si), Southern Slope of Genpeiwuzi Mountain, Chengguan District, Lhasa 850000 China
In this morning, we are going to visit the largest monastery of the Gelugpa Buddhism sect. It is called second Nalanda university once in the history as it hit the excellent Buddhism academic and results. It is called Drepung Monastery. This is remotely located at the foot of the mountain and it totally attracted the visitors from far view of the monastery.

Sera monastery in the afternoon, coming to see more interesting session of the trip, this monastery is the most prevalent prominent in Debating. Intensive debate is taking place in this monastery with hundreds of monks are involved in the debating courtyard. Where you can take photos and make filming with your cellphones but it is not allowed to take pictures and videos by your digital cameras.

Day 4: YAMDROK LAKE-GLACIER-STUPA-SHIGATSE(3870M)
Stop At: Yamdrok Yumtso Lake, Langkazi Country, Nagarze County 851100 China
First sight on the way to Shigatse, Yamdrok lake(4400m) which we will see the breathtaking lake from the Gampala Summit(4790) and snow-capped Mt.Nyenchen Kangsar (7191m) . It is totally amazed by the view of the lake and snow capped mountains

Karola glacier-5050m is so bloomy and it is very impressive to see the glacier with a group of Tibetan girls who are asking the people to take photos for charge.

Stop At: Gyangze County, Gyangze County, Tibet
we are going to see the Gyantse fortress and visit monastery with stupa. They are so beautiful to discover the history of the ancient time and learn more about the people of the Gyantse how they were inevitably involved in war with Young-husband troops in Tibet.

Day 5: Tashi Lhunpo-New Tingri – Rongphu Monastery – Everest Base Camp(5200m)
Stop At: Tashilunpo Monastery, Jijilangka Road, Shigatse 857001 China
In the morning, we will visit the seat of the Panchan Lamas -Tashi Lhunpo Monastery. Actually, it was founded in 1447 by 1st Dalai Lama and later this was offered to Panchen Lama(Will be detailed by expert guide). It will take hours to discover inside the monastery with giant future Buddha(Maitreiya) and if you prefer to make kora(circumambulation) around the monastery, it would be great chance to take fantastic pictures of its landscapes and whole view of the monastery.

Stop At: Rongbuk Monastery, near North Everest Base Camp, Tingri County China
After the stop at the Gyalpo La(5028m) summit to See the five tallest mountains in the world by above 8000m with panoramic pictures, we are driving down to the valley with countless switch-back to the Monastery(Rongbu-5200m) located at Mt.Everest Base Camp and it is the best location to take photos with Mt.Everest together and highest monastery in the world. Stay one overnight in monastery guesthouse or tent.

Day 6: Mt.Everest-Old Tingri, Shishapangma Protection Zone–Pelkhu tso lake-Saga(4600m)

Monastery(Rongbu-5200m) located at Mt.Everest Base Camp and it is the best location to take photos with Mt.Everest together and highest monastery in the world.

Day 7: Saga-Darchen, Via Lake Manasarover (450km)-6hrs 58 min,
Stop At: Lake Manasarovar, 35 miles East of Pulan County, Burang County 110001 China
Freshly wake up in the morning on this 8th day we drive on to Darchen Via Drongpa county and Baryang Township. After today’s pass Mayomla(5112m), we will enjoy the spectacular views of the several high mountains and beautiful villages with perfect shots can be encountered. Then the most beautiful and holiest lake in Tibet Lake Manasarovar

the holiest Mt.Kailash is a 6,638 m (21,778 ft)(གངས་རིན་པོ་ཆེ in Tibetan) located in the far western Tibet. This crystal mountain is considered as sacred mountain by four religions’ followers such as Buddhism, Hinduism, Jainism, Bon. Here we will meet these four different people who differently practice by their own way to worship it. We will easily notice the people who worship in different ways. Enjoy the scenes and people’s tradition and customs like in a museum.

Day 8: Trekking From Darchen-Driapuk(20km-5,050m)
Stop At: Dirapuk Monastery, 484C+XFR, Burang County, Ngari Prefecture, Tibet, China, 859512
The trekking part of our trip to Mt.Kailash is started from Darchen to Dirapuk monastery. When we take kora(circuit of the Kailash) as clockwise along the Lachu valley and rivers, we are going to stay one overnight at the monastery where we will have amazing shots the faces of the mountain Kailash with monastery’s lined up stupas at in front. The first day of our trekking will ended at monastery guesthouse guesthouse and it would be great to visit the monastery and take some different photos of the Mt.Kailash from the monastery if those who are still energetic to walk little more. But, the average altitude around the Mt.Kailash is 4,750m, so we don’t recommend you push hard yourself rather than talking rest and ready for second day’s challenge. Stay calm and do slowly at high altitude.

Day 9: 2nd Day Trekking From Dirapuk To Dzutripuk Monasteries(18km-4790m)
Stop At: Mount Kailash, Within Pulan County Humla Simikota, Burang County 859500 China
The distance of our 2nd day’s trekking is not so far but today our challenge is to climb up to the passes are Dikpa La(5000m) and Dolma La(5630m). These passes aren’t bad to walk though. At the summit of the Drolma La, there we will have some memorable photos with steep and slope peak mountains and slowly walk down to the valley to have lunch or rest. Then we trek along the valley and river to the monastery (4,803m) where we are going to spend one night over there. Before arriving to the monastery, the life of nomads and yak-hair-black-tents can be seen. The Dzultripuk monastery is very famous in Tibet Buddhism history. According to the Tibet Buddhism canon, Milarepa was the only person who attended the highest level(Buddhahood )in Buddhism within single life. This monastery is very sacred to the Buddhists.

Day 10: Dzultripuk Monastery To Started Point-Darchen(18km)

On the last day of the Mt.Kailash kora, we will walk till to the started point or to the hotel at Darchen and going to stay one overnight there. Our last trekking coming to end around noon. Here we have contingent plan either going to stay at Darchen to take rest in the lodging place or going to stay one overnight at the vicinity of the Lake Manasorovar where there are guesthouse and monastery. The condition of the hotel and restaurant are better than the lake nearby. There we will have more chances to have stunning photos at lake nearby, if you choose to stay at there

Day 11: Driving From Darchen-Saga(450km)-6hrs 58 min)
Stop At: Lake Manasarovar, 35 miles East of Pulan County, Burang County 110001 China
Even if we stayed one overnight at Darchen, today we are going to see the Lake Manasorovar again by passing via the lake to Saga. Today we trace the road back to Saga is quite boring as we took the road already, but we will have some distinguished activities to make alleviate in the car and going to spend one night in Saga.

Day 12: Saga-Sakya Monastery(346km)-5hrs 15min
Stop At: Sakya Monastery, Basiba Road, Sa’gya County 857800 China
After the breakfast at hotel in Saga, we start driving to the great Sakya buddhism principle monastery. It will be quite late to visit the monastery when we arrive at Sakya ancient town. There we stay one overnight at nearby the monastery. We recommend you to visit the giant stupa which is located at behind of the monastery’s wall outside for souvenir pictures and have some couple of walks around the town where you will enjoy the different customs and village buildings.

Day 13: Sakya Monasteryས་སྐྱ་དགོན་པ།-Shigatse(147km) 2hrs 46min
Stop At: Sakya Monastery, Basiba Road, Sa’gya County 857800 China
Today, in the morning we are going to visit the largest Tibetan Buddhism monastery library in the world. This monastery was founded in 1073, by Konchok Gyelpo. The Sakya trizins were tightly connected to yuan dynasty and played great roles in Tibet history. Entering inside the monastery, we will see the many giant wonden support pillars and magnificent statues of great masters of this Buddhism sect. Then we will see the most well preserved huge collections of scriptures and murals on shelves along the walls of the great hall. This is the most amazing Tibetan Buddhism library in the world. After visited inside the monastery and some chapels, we can go up to the wall and make an around the monastery to see how huge the monastery is. And then we drive to Shigatse by 147km and stay one night there.

Day 14: Shigatse-Lhasa(280km)-6hrs
Pass By: Shigatse, Shigatse, Tibet
In the morning we start going back to Lhasa and drive approximately 6hrs along the Yarlong Tsanpo river and its valley. By half way to Lhasa from Shigatse, we will have chance to see the Water Mill making Tibetan Incense and widest part of the Yarlong Tsanpo River. Then we go to the hotel and stay overnight in Lhasa. After you take some rest in the hotel, you will have some more times to visit Tibetan shops at old town where you can buy some souvenirs to your family and friends.

Day 15: Departure To Airport/ Train Station-Farewell
