What to Expect When Visiting Lijiang, Yunnan, China

As one of the greatest gorges in China, Tiger Leaping Gorge is worth a few days for you to explore its magnificence. The cliffs, the fast-flowing Jinsha River (Yangtze), and the back of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, which is not seen by less adventurous tourists, all will give you the memorable hiking experience.
Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Lijiang
Stop At: Old Town of Lijiang – China, No.57, Xuetang Rd, Dayan Township, Gucheng Dist, Lijiang 674100 China

Arrive at Lijiang airport or railway station where a driver holding a nameplate will pick you up and drive to Lijiang Ancient Town. Stroll in Lijiang Ancient Town. The ancient town perfectly combines mountain, water, and the living environment to create an excellent example of human habitat showing the harmony between man and nature. The unique urban layout, tortuous streets, the scattered residential houses, and the flowing streams make it stand out in many famous ancient towns. Then, you will visit the Zhongyi Market.

Day 2: Lijiang- Qiaotou- Tea & Horse Guesthouse
Stop At: Lijiang, Lijiang, Yunnan

This morning, you will visit the Black Dragon Pool. While enjoying beautiful scenery there, you can also watch local square dancing, join in the dancing if you have an interest. And visit Dongba Museum to explore the rich Naxi minority culture. In addition to the beautiful scenery of Black Dragon Pool, you can see the reflection of the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain on sunny days.

Stop At: Tiger Leaping Gorge (Hutiao Xia), 100 km NW of Lijiang Hutiaoxia Town, Shangri-La County 674402 China
Transfer to Qiaotou by private car (2 hours).
After lunch, trekking from Naxi Family Guesthouse to 28 zigzagging turns will be a challenge for you. From the top of “28 turns” on the high path further uphill to a place of the altitude above 3000m, you can have a view of the panorama of the entire Gorge. Arrive at Tea & Horse Guesthouse (2350 m) to finish today’s trekking. It takes about 4-5 hours.

Day 3: Tea & Horse Guesthouse – Tina’s Guesthouse – Daju – Wumu
Stop At: Shangri-La, Shangri-La, Singapore

In the early morning, hiking down to Tina’s Guesthouse (3.5 hours) passed through Guanyin waterfall and canyons on the way. After having lunch at Tina’s Guesthouse, then go to Xincun village pier after half hour’s drive and go down to Xincun village pier, the lower section of the gorge where you will take a ferry across the River to Daju pier. After that, drive to Wumu village (3 hours) and stay overnight there.
Take a walk in Wumu village.

Day 4: Wumu – Baoshan – Wumu
Stop At: Baoshan Stone Town, In Jinshajiang Canyon, Baoshan Town, Yulong County 674100 China
Private car and a local farmer leading the way
This morning, you will meet a local farmer who will lead the way to you. Walk down to the Yangzi River (2.5 hrs) and you will take ferry upstream to Baoshan village (30 min). After arriving, you will go up to Baoshan Stone village (1.5 hours) with locals.
Baoshan Village, constructed at the beginning of the Mongolian Kingdom, is admired with the most charming and old Naxi villages in North of Lijiang, less crowded yet well-preserved. The village was built at the beginning of the Mongol Dynasty on a huge rock, overlooking the Yangtze River and its valley.
Return to Wumu Village by private car (1.5 hours) and enjoy the rest of the day at leisure to wander through the beautiful countryside. Like Baoshan, Wumu also has a long history but the village is even less known and quieter. A visit to the village and the surrounding fields is a good opportunity to get a feel for their lifestyle. The village is renowned for the Dongba culture.
