Stop At: The Ngong Ping 360 Rescue Trail, Lantau Island, Hong Kong

We’ll meet up bright and early at the Tung Chung MTR Station before starting the hike up to the Big Buddha. We’ll follow the Ngong Ping 360 Rescue Trail that’s approximately 7km long uphill (4.4 miles), so expect a LOT of stairs! As you continue up the trail, we’ll see panoramic views of the surrounding hills, Tung Chung Bay, and the airport. A few quick stops to snap some photos of the beautiful scenery will serve as welcome breaks before we reach our destination.

Stop At: Tian Tan Buddha, Ngong Ping Rd, Lantau Island, Hong Kong

Once at the top, we’ll marvel at the main attraction – the Big Buddha. Known locally as the Tian Tan Buddha, it is one of the largest outdoor Buddha statues in the world. Standing at roughly 35 meters, the huge statue is said to symbolize the harmonious relationship between man and nature as well as people and faith.

Stop At: Po Lin Monastery, Ngong Ping, Hong Kong

After taking in the sights at the Big Buddha, we’ll head right across to the Po Lin Monastery. One of the foremost monasteries in the area, it’s known for its sacred Buddhist icons, stately courtyard, and in-house vegetarian restaurant.

Stop At: Wisdom Path, 大嶼山, Ngong Ping Fun Walk, Ngong Ping, Hong Kong

Our last stop for the morning is the Wisdom Path. Just a short walk away from the monastery, this path is known for its 38 wooden columns that each hold verses from the centuries-old Heart Sutra. Listen as our guide translates the verses for you, invoking words of wisdom and prayer. What better way to end the morning than with a moment of peace and serenity?
