A stroll through the old city of Pingyao to take a quick tour of the Rishengchang museum which was the first bank in the history of China and was founded in 1823 during the Qing dynasty. The Qiao Family Complex is the former residence of Qiao Zhiyong, the third-generation commercial magnate of the Qiao family in Shanxi Province. He reached his fortune by managing banks, pawnbrokers and tea houses.
The entire courtyard consists of 6 main and 20 smaller courtyards, with 313 rooms in total. Follow your guide to go up to the pavilion where you can enjoy a bird’s-eye view of the entire complex.
